Vision-Guided No-Programming Welding System for H-Beam Structures

Client Profile

Our client is a Chinese structural steel manufacturer specializing in H-beams for construction and infrastructure projects. With growing order volumes, manual welding could no longer meet the high demands for weld precision, consistency, and production efficiency.

Heavy reliance on skilled welders also increased labor intensity and safety risks. The client sought an automated solution to ensure weld quality, boost throughput, and flexibly accommodate production of H-beams in various sizes.

The Challenge

  • Complex joint geometry: Intersections of flanges and webs are hard to reach, making consistent penetration and seam alignment challenging.
  • High heat input: Thick steel sections are prone to distortion, affecting dimensional accuracy.
  • Labor-intensive process: Manual welding of heavy H-beams demands highly skilled operators and long labor hours.
  • Quality consistency: Variations between operators and shifts can lead to inconsistent welds, impacting structural integrity and compliance.

Our Solution

In October 2025, we implemented a suspended robotic welding system mounted on a rail track, allowing the robot to weld H-beams of longer lengths and larger volumes with flexibility and precision. A Vision-Guided No-Programming system was integrated, enabling automatic weld path generation, real-time seam detection, and quick adaptation to different beam sizes without production downtime.

Our team also performed on-site commissioning and operator training to ensure a smooth transition from manual to automated welding. This welding operation served as a trial run to validate the system’s performance under real-world production conditions.

The Outcome

  • Consistent weld quality: Achieved high-quality, uniform welds across all H-beam sizes, meeting strict structural standards.
  • Increased production efficiency: Throughput improved by 35-45%, reducing dependency on skilled labor.
  • Enhanced workplace safety: Heavy manual handling was minimized, reducing operator fatigue and safety risks.
  • Future flexibility: Offline programming allows rapid adaptation to new beam sizes or joint configurations, achieving high client satisfaction.

The solution demonstrates how modern automation can address both operational and strategic challenges in structural steel manufacturing.
